I saw the hen off the nest today, so dived in to check the nestbox.
Three cracking chicks fully feathered and should be on the perch in about ten days.A nestbox full of pink....magic!

And boy the racket they make!!....a long threatening rattle...may not put a predator off but it made me jump.

That's wonderful , now we wait patiently for the pics

Or....not so patiently!

Can't wait to see those babies!

Wonderful news that tickled me pink Congrats!

I've been looking at the Bourkes lately and I have to say their babies are some of the cutest little puff balls I've ever seen!

I don't normally...but with the hen bourke sitting so tight I have to take the opportunity to check when she comes off the nest.That's how last week I discovered two dead chicks in this box and removed the bodies These three are equal size and appear healthy and strong,certainly very vocal.
Last night was our first frost and I'm keeping a close eye for any chicks that need help.(minimal heating supplied to keep the cold out,but not as warm as I'd like for chicks.Power costs are horrendous here so I have to hope the birds will put up with lower temperatures.)

Two bicheno chicks have flown and disappeared into the foliage...the third was dead in the box. Not a good year for them,I have had a few deaths of fully feathered chicks...I'm hoping the young parents will improve their rearing skills in the new year.They have a constant supply of eggfood,that's as far as I can help.
