10-23 New Pictures of my Rosey Bourkes

Post by cindy » Fri Oct 22, 2010 4:34 pm

today I got to pick up two little sibling rosey bourkes. They were handfed out and so friendly and sweet. I think one is a boy the other a female. The reeder has a pair of pinks (one parent is split to yellow) that is nesting. I will get another baby/babies from that pair, it is unrelated to these two.

They ate a little and are very sleepy from the ride home. Poor things, I kept waking them up when I tried to take pictures. The one in the front I think is a male, the head is larger and it has the blue on the wings, the other might be a female.

I can't breed them for about a year so I will enjoy them. They come right to you and stand in my hand.

Congrats, they are a very cute duo. Any names yet? Or will you DNA them first?

Thank you Domenic, the one to the front in the picture of the two, I think is a male. The head is very wide and he is getting a little blue on the wings. The other has a very small head, not as broad, I think it is a female. They are hard to sex visually sometimes and are very young.

My friend took a few feathers from their chest and sent them to a lab in Miami but found out it closed. He has the other pair set up so when they have young I'll probably go ahead and sex these through a lab so I can get a unrelated baby from the new clutch.

These are so sweet, they run right up to you and stand on your hand. They are in a small 30x 18 cage for now until they get a bit more sturdy, then they can go into a flight. I'll have to come up with a non sex descript name for each of them. They do have little personalities. The one I think is a boy is a little bolder and will run to you, the other is a little stand-offish at first, but just as sweet.

I am just so thrilled!

Thanks Donna, Anna and Liz. My friend, Bill did such a wonderful job handfeeding and handling these. They are not flighty and chirp when you walk into the room. I spent about 20 minutes letting them eat pellets and little seeds from my hand, they are so gentle.

Hi Cindy....I haven't posted here in ages but just had to congratulate you on your little Rosey Bourke babies...they are adorable! :-D

Funny thing I just bought an adult pair of normal Bourkes with a cage. My pair are not tame so I have my work cut out for me. I am letting them settle in for a while before I try to work with them as they are pretty skittish.

I hope to get some Rosey Bourkes in the future too....so I am very envious of your little cutie pies.

My little Owl pair and Society Finches are all doing well.

Here is a photo of my Bourke pair.

Are they totally weaned from the formula?

Mine are totally weaned, reject it everytime it is offered. Bourkes wean out faster than parrotlets and lovebirds. They love the finch size Zupreem pellets, millet and believe it or not the ABBA powdered eggfood.

Deborah that is a very nice pair of Bourkes, it is hard to tame down an older adult bourke if it was never handled or handfed. If they are over a yr and you plan to breed them, pull the chicks and feed out when they are two weeks old, I spoon feed opposed to syrine. if you handle the babies alot you will get tame bourkes that aren't flighty.
