Gouldians and Zebras

Post by Lauravdm » Wed Nov 10, 2010 2:11 am

Hey all...
Is it conpletely impossible to keep gouldians and zebras together, as I know the zebra's are very pushy, I just wondered because someone is holding a pair for me and I am wondering whether to take them, but I was not keen on putting them in the aviary with the zebras

They might work OK.
BUT...there are a lot of buts.
- Do you have a LOT of space for them, so the gouldian can get away from the zebra? The more space the better.
- If they were brought up together, the might be "buddies."
- What sexes?
- How was the zebra brought up? Aggression can be learned (as a survival mechanism) by being in a cage with other aggressive zebras.
- etc.

Personally, having watched my zebras, I would not mix them.
The gouldians are way too valuable to take a chance mixing with zebras.

Well my husband and I discussed it and I was not at all keen on putting them together, so he has decided to put a dividing fence in the cage, so it will be 2 cages in one

Great idea. Compromise and get both.

Well in the process of the conversation about the fence, we have now decided to extend the cage rather:)
