Just Got Back From The Bird Fair

Well, I really was well behaved but only because there was not much there. Half the dealers did not show up & when I asked why I was told it's the economy stupid.
Anyway, I bought 4 Goulds and a young pair of Chestnut-bellied Seedeaters. The seedeaters were purchased from Jan and are young birds. The male is just coming into color. She had an adult pair also, they are really beautiful birds for lacking in color. Prettier than any pic I have seen. The gray is a blue shade and the chestnut is much deepen than shows up in most pics. Mine would not stay still enough to capture a good pic. The Bl Head dilute male, the red head dilute male and the black head hen were purchased from Bill Lambert. He always has very nice birds. The black head yellow female was purchased from Emily of Gammy's Finches. Her birds also always look good, but she does not always bring birds she usually just brings bird supplies. Anyway, here are a few pics. I am going to get their cages set up now.

Glad you had a good time and looks like you scored well, Pretty Birds.
I had called about being a vendor but decided not to, too far and too many finch vendors. I always seem to be competing with my vendor friends for the gouldian sales

Both Bill and Emily always have nice gouldians

Jan has neat everythings
I also called the State of LA and they said I needed a LA wildlife liscense and a State business/peddlers liscense to sell in the state.....They sent me all kinds of forms and paper work. It all came to over $200 + LA collects State Tax (FL doesn't) so that entails another sheet filled out by my accountant and more $$$$. I was told they never checked at these fairs but I always like being legal....you never know
AL and FL have much more reasonable wildlife permit and vendor fees so I think I will stick closer to home

Too bad so many vendors didn't show up... I was only going to be able to get in because of a cancellation. This fair had been booked full for months.

See the blue on the head of the black head Dilute? You have one too Johnboy - I really think they all have it as I've not seen one without it now.
Beautiful birds

I don't understand this comment. Do you mean the blue ring around the head?

No - the blue on top of his head. See the post from Candace -

John.
That was an older post of the green dilutes that some were showing more blues on the head than others.
Here is another post of a blue pastel (blue back) that Tiffany bought.
http://finchforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=7 ... +with+blue
We both had an interest in this unusual amount of blue on the head. All black headed dilutes have a the blue ring around the neck in different thicknesses and brightness. Some actually have the blue on the top of the head and cheeks.
Here is a young bird in earlier post at full maturity...lots of blue
I took pictures in different lighting because many times the camera will give the illusion of blue due to the reflective qualities of the light grey heads, especially if using a flash. All the below pics are without flash and are inside lighting, outside sunshine and outside shade. I also put him nest to the purple passion flower to show the blue head and breast color compared to the true purple flower.
Aslo here is a site from a beautiful dilute that was produced outside the US

Unfortunately I lost my male a few months ago.

But I have 2 chicks from him, 3 sisters and have bred his parents again and looks like they have produced 3 more like him

though they are only 8 months so It will be another 6 months or so before I know how much blue they will get.
In the picture yours looks to have a good bit of blue overcast, to the cheeks also. Do you know how old he is? Maybe we could swap bloodlines someday if he does have the blue and if you are interested in trying to establish this blue headed gouldian.
Sorry for elaborating so in your post. But thought I would try and explain the blue head statement.

Aren't they absolutely precious! They are almost as tiny as the GB waxbills.
