New Forbes PF's with Pictures

Post by annague » Mon Nov 15, 2010 11:13 pm

I recently bought 2 new (unrelated) pairs of Forbes Parrot Finches. I promised pictures of these shy guys... so I am attaching the only pictures I could get -- it was very difficult as they are constantly moving.

I have been surprised by their temerity -- they pretty much are ruling the roost already -- backing down my regular parrot finches AND my canary with some rippin' irridescent blue attitude!

Hopefully babies soon -- the males are very keen on the cute li'l girls.

Very happy with these guys -- super beautiful and healthy.

You did good on the pictures :D They are absolutely stunning. They do look super healthy without a feather out of place. Can't wait to hear of the news of nest building, eggs, and chicks

Thanks so much everybody. I appreciate all the kind comments. :) They are very pretty little birds. I hope I can have some success with the Forbes.

Right now a pair of my RT pied parrot finches have a clutch and several other pairs are on eggs -- I hear multiple little voices (they sound like someone holding a chain and "clinking" it)!! So, pictures when they fledge. I can't really get good pictures while in nest because it will disturb my "community" aviary.

Liz, all my parrot finches are in the same very large, walk-in cage --. I chopped several dead ivy vines off of some large trees and am using them for perching that stretches end to end. The vines have a lot of neat, twisty texture (kind of looks jungle-like). The birds really seem to like it and it creates a very cool look.

Their color IS startling and yet the pictures do not do justice to them -- like all birds they are most beautiful in person.

I caught one of the males Forbes in an unoccupied nest today, he was re-arranging the nesting material. The other Forbes male watched him for a while (PF's are inordinately nosy) and then helpfully (not!) started pulling out pieces of the nesting and just dropping it on the floor of the cage.

They are ornery birds -- I think I'm going to name them after some of the Pirates of the Carribean characters.
