Ok this morning i went into my birdroom,i convereted half a bedroom into a large walk in avary/flight and the other half has breeding cages.
Anyhow,on the floor of the flight was one of my goldfinches,i put them in there a couple days ago after they had been in a cage for 30 days in quaratine, they have been eating forign finch seed and niger seed like there is no tomorrow,they really eat like crazy,but neither is fat so i presumed that they were just naturally big eaters.
In the cage with them are canaries,diamonds and plenty of finches
I have taken the other goldfinch and put him in a seperate cage just in case, there is no sign of beating or alt on the dead goldfinch,just wondering if there is something i have missed on the care of the goldfinch or was it just one of those things we can not exlain and have to deal with?

I'm sorry you lost a Goldfinch, Toby. How do the other GF's look - healthy, active, eating and drinking as usual. It was probably one of those unexplained things that happens to most of us sooner or later. Very sorry.

Sorry to hear of your loss.....was it a wild caught Goldfinch?, its common for them to be caught and sold in Ireland and England.
Its a shame as they are such beautiful birds.
Wild caught goldfinches have been known to just drop after a brief period in captivity.
Cant handle the confinement.

all the other finches are looking fine and healthy, it was a aviary bred goldfinch so not wild caught, just looks like one of those things we have to deal with

Just a thought,did you see the goldfinch find water in it's new location?It's frustrating not knowing the cause of death.Goodluck with the rest.

Hadnt thought of that one,i have seen the other goldfinch drinking so i know he has fount the water
