So I love all four species ,but I really want to narrow it down to two.

Plum Headed Finch
Red Crested Finch (I know ,more like a tanager)
Red Siskin
Chestnut Brested Mannikin

Which is the easiest to breed ?? Which is the best in mixed flights ??

Thanks
-Scott

Welcome to the forum Scott. I have absolutely no clue, but you should check out the finch info center link to the left. It's chocked with great info on a lot of different species.

I can only comment on the plumhead and the chestnut.
I have each of those.....
The plumheads really need alot of space in my opinon as they are very active birds. They are constantly all over the place and full of personality.
they are really fun little birds.
The chestnut breasted are very calm little birds(at least my three are) In my opinon they are calm like the gouldians.
Tough decision between thsoe two....

welcome to the forum and be sure to let us know what you decide!!

Thanks. Would you mind post some picturesof you Chestnut Breasted's ??

From what I can gather the siskin is similar to a canary in care ,while the the red crested is most similar to the tanager in care. I have also worked with red crested's before ,and belive that fresh fruit ,bugs and softbill diet should be fed to them.

Then also from what I can gather ,the plum head and chestnuts seem to be typical finchs.'

Oh ,this is going to be hard.

You are actually getting them? That's great. So often people come on here saying they want strawberry finches or some wildly rare finch without understanding how difficult it really is to find them.

I would have chosen the chestnut breasted mannikins, especially since they are hard to come across.
