Lavenders?

Just read the following ad on a craigslist not too far from me:

"Last of my breeding stock. A proven breeding trio (3) of rare Lavender Finches; one male blacktail, one male redtail, and one redtail female. All 3 for $200.00. They have raised 4 chicks and are '08/'07 birds." There are two photos attached to the ad.

I don't know a THING about Lavenders other than they are pretty - so I am off to do a little research.

What does everyone think - worth taking a drive to see the birds?

It might be worth it if you really want to add Lavenders... :)

From what I have heard from other breeders, Lavendars require extra insect food - especially for breeding. Not that it is so hard to get (mealworms or fried insect food) but it's a consideration.

Lavendars are also pretty active, though I think they get along with other finch species.

If this person is selling 2 different subspecies, I would avoid mixing them as hybrid chicks are not desirable.
