SAFFRON FINCHES

Post by jeanne223 » Thu Jan 06, 2011 11:33 am

Does anyone here know if putting a pair of Saffron finches with 2 Javas would be a problem. I have them in a large cage that is suitable for up to 8 finches. Right now it is the two of them alone. I know the Saffrons are considered pushy but so are the Javas even though I think they are big teddy bears.

Saffron finches are very vicious when breeding. They will literally kill every bird that gets in their way.

Saffrons can be unpredictable even when they're not breeding. I read on another forum how one person kept a of group of hens, then one day they turned on each other and he ended up with a couple of dead birds. Javas can also throw their weight around if pushed too far. I personally wouldn't mix aggressive species unless it was in a large avairy with plenty of cover and space.

Well,
That answers my question. I will just get them some more Java buddies. I don't want to lose them they are really funny characters.
