Spices are great for the beginner bird keeper. I can't comment on the OC's as I have not kept those.

I think they are both pretty easy to keep as a beginner, however, orange cheeks can be a little tricky to breed (if you are interested in doing that in the future) as they are insectivorous waxbills... If you don't like the idea of handling/feeding mealworms and other live insects, you might want to avoid the orange cheeks.

I love my little Orange-cheek waxbill. He's so cheeky

He likes to preen with my societies and owls. I love the way his tail flits back a forth. :P Very entertaining little guy.

I recommend both. Spice are easier to breed, but they are both easy to keep and get along with everybody. Spice have a regular song (my little boy greets the lights every morning by singing to his sister), while the OCs have a squeeky little routine. I do have one OC whose mate seems to love to pluck him, but that's been my only problem with them.

I agree with everyone. I have an orange cheek pair and they are some of my favorites.
