Housing Zebras and Goldbreasted Waxbills together

Post by finch_values » Fri Jan 28, 2011 9:43 pm

Is it possible for zebras and goldbreasts to peacefully co-exist in the same cage?

The cage in question will be about 43'' L x 20'' W x 36'' H. I have two zebra males that are best buddies and I’m hoping to get two male goldbreasts.

I’ve checked many compatibility charts (including the one @ Finchinfo) and I’ve seen owls and cordon bleus (which are considered passive) housed with zebras with no problems.

Does that only work out in an aviary setting? I know zebras can be pretty pushy, but I’ve heard that goldbreasts can hold their own against larger birds.

It may well work out but you always have to be prepared in case they just don't get along.

A friend of mine (whose birds I babysit) has 2 Zebras in with a pair of Goldbreasted, in a mixed cage of 10 males and has no problems....The Zebras do on occasion get bossy and chase others around the cage, but overall they all get along....Just keep an eye on them, incase yours cause problems together...
