Bengallesse(societe) finch

Post by tobyneilson » Fri Feb 18, 2011 11:59 am

OK this is prob a silly question, and i think the answer is no,but no harm in asking.
Is there a good way(apart from song) of sexing Bengallesse finch?
The reason I ask is that i have around 15 in a flight cage and I want to seperate a pair or two, they are all from different breeders and I lost the records that came with them,so cant identify them by bands which are a variety of colour :(
When I first got them they were just for enjoyment and pleasure to watch, but now I want to try and breed them
Is it gona be a case of guess and hope I pick a pair?
There are a few i want to try together but unsure of sex lol

You are right - singing and dancing are the only way to tell the males. The females sound like crickets.

Thought so from what i had read before i bought the birds lol
Oh well looks like it gona be trial and error, got a feeling on a couple of them but there two really nice ones i want to try and breed together as the markings and colours, well say colours as one is total black lol, and i think they would produce lovely chicks
Will just put some together for a few weeks and see what happens

Why not do a DNA sexing - very easy to do.
Other option is clinical sexing by an avian vet.
Good luck.
