i was at my LPS the other day and the had some really nice looking Orange Cheek Wax Bills. I currently have 2 pair of Zebras and some quail. I would like to get some Gouldians and or Owl finches someday in the future. My cage is 5x4x2 there are plenty of branches and plants. Do you think the OCWB's would be ok with this group?

Thanks

hi! given that you already four zebras in there, be careful what other birds you add. zebras are pushy birds, so they may gang up on any oddballs, especially if those are 'passive' birds. goulds and owls are both passive, and ocwb are small. my limited experience says either stick with pushy birds, or make sure the zebras are outnumbered if cage space allows.

what would be some other types of "pushy birds"? Im fairly new in keeping finches, so learning what can go with what has become a challenge

I am newer to finches as well and by no means an expert, but I will say that even my Cordon Bleu's push my little Orange Cheeks around in a cage that is about that same size. They get better every day, but they still hog stuff around the aviary.

Typically there will be a pecking order in any mixed flight. As long as you can provide maybe two places for the finches to eat -- so that the shyer, more timid finches will always have a place to eat you should be ok as long as the finches are not pulling feathers off the other birds, pecking them viciously, etc. Typically the "communal" birds do better together. Check out the Finch Info Ctr (on left of screen) for information on friendlier finches.
