Hello! I am a newbie to the forum
and I have a question for all of you experts. I just recently purchased two Society finches and have been quite happy with their funny little chirps and tweets. Sadly, two days ago my female decided she didn't want to live! I was so stressed that I sat up all night with her until her last breath. My poor male spent all day yesterday calling for her over and over again. First thing this morning I purchased another female. I know it is really early to be asking this, and they need time of course...but is there anything I can do? Right now they don't even sit on the same branch. My male has quieted down, but they don't seem to be very excited about each other. It reminds me of the Gary Larson comic in which two kissing fish are being put into the same bowl, the beautiful female fish is shuttering as the buck-toothed male is being dropped in. I guess I just took for granted that if you stuck a pair together they would be happy! Sorry for my simple mindedness on the subject...but if anyone could help me understand it would be much appreciated.

Just give them some time.
He is probably still wondering where his girlfriend went, and she has just been moved into a new home with a new mate. They will learn to love each other

Thanks! I figured as much, but it is kind of funny to go from a male singing his heart out every five minutes to....nothing. I hope more snuggling will happen with time.

Don't worry, it won't take long, and with Societies they will start laying eggs quickly....Then the worry will be how to stop them!...LOL

Time. Society finches - keyword. They are breed in cages not ment for the wild and like any other finch love company. But when introducing another bird to the cage make sure its similar in size and breed and give it time. They are self sufficient and will work it out.

I HAVE FOUND THE KEY!! Serve them a romantic candlelight dinner of eggfood for two and they shall be friends...

Well they both slept in the nest last night but...the male screeches non stop!
I'm not sure what to do. I thought he would calm down now that the other girl is
with him but he is so loud it is almost driving me out!! Is he calling for the other bird
or is that just how Society finches are?? The only time he stops his high pitched chirps
is when he is eating, then they start up again. The female makes soft little chirps but
his are almost hoarse cries. Is this just something he will get over or have I just picked a
noisy species??

hi
its not usual for societieis to make that kind of noise,maybe you are not used to it or maybe the bird you bought,may look like a society but may be another species.its hard to see the birds very well from that picture is there any chance you can get a better picture,because you may have a spice bird or some other related species.i am not saying this is so but the noise you are explaining does not sound like a society to me
