New Pied Zebbie Baby -- Is he a white-cheek?

I'm attaching pic's of my most recent Zebra baby. Obviously, he is pied. I was intrigued to see his cheek patches appear white...

This is really my 2nd clutch and not experienced with Zebs so... maybe someone else can tell me for sure what he is?

His mother is a heavy pied (I love pied's as much as many people on the FF seem to dislike them). :) His father is a normal gray lightly pied zebra.

Oh... his name is "A La Mode"...

I don't know either but he's totally adorable! Oh, I like pied zebbies. I have one that looks exactly like a saddleback Society. I'm new to finches but I thought it was a pied. Anyhow, I'm babbling. I think he's going to look awesome with that dark head and light cheek patches. How do you know it's a boy? Are those adult feathers?

  What a gorgeous color! I don't care for pied but he is a keeper - what a cutie! I see you banded him with a "C" they usually suggest to band with a D or E size - I used E's on mine and they were snug

I think he is a boy because he appears to already be developing his cheek patches but I am not 100% certain. No they are juvenile colors but you can usually see some of the adult bird in the juvenile plumage...

Really?! I'm just starting to band this year-- so I should get a bunch of E's?? Are the suggested sizes on the NFSS site pretty correct? I need to buy a whole bunch more bands I guess...

If mom and dad are both pied, that implies they have CFW or white in their genes. I'm thinking your pretty baby may end up CFW. It's been awhile since I've had CFW chicks so I can't say with certainty whether or not the chicks start off with that white patch. I almost want to even say possibly Fawn CFW. Either way, keep us updated. He's a cutie pie. :)

Yes - they suggest E for the English size and the regular size I imagine could take a C or D but how big are his parents? If they are big then you would want E for sure - I just looked it up and they suggest D for the American size and E for the English size. Sorry

Cute little one. =D> I've bred fawn pied to grey pied before and got the same colouring in chicks, but with a little less grey on the head. Lighter grey. They turned into white hens.
Mine though had no special mutation breeding like CFW etc, they were just normal run 'o the mill Zebras with plenty in their gene box.

Time will tell. You got to love Zebbies and their suprise box of genetics they pull out the hat.

hi
i may be wrong, but i think i can see a faint teardrop there,if so then its a female,i might be wrong but wait till it gets its adult plumage and then you will be able to tell for sure whether its a girl or boy and what brand it is (i will stick my neck out and say cfw female )

Misty, I'm glad you told me about the band sizes -- her (I've been thinking of her as a him :)) band will come off and I will order D's.

This is an new interesting color for my zebra chicks. I will keep everybody up to date on what she turns out to be...
