I remember the days when you called them "gaudy" and that you prefered the black and brown natural colored.... Yep, Another finch keeper captivated by the spectacular gouldian

I never thought I would ever specialize in gouldians...but never say never as here I sit adoring my "gaudy birds" :D I really fell in love with their calm personalities, not to mention those varities of colors.

Your chicks look great, happy and healthy :D

So Candace, You remember me thinking that they are gaudy.
Good memory.

I do love the earthtones also, and still love bl & wh birds.
I think their gentle nature and readiness to breed captured my interest. I remember in the 70's goulds were not easily bred and often died for unknown reasons. I remember having them years ago and the birds I bought at a bird fair had air sac mites. At that time you would put the birds in a paper bag and put malathion in the bag. You would then blow the malathion around using a straw. The birds would breath the powder and it was suppose to eventually get rid of the mites. But it usually got rid of the bird. I think with all the new meds for these conditions has made keeping goulds a lot easier. Also I believe the bloodlines are a lot stronger today than yesteryears.
