I am so frustraded with that pair!
The babies were nice and healthy looking!
There was no reason for them to toss them!
All that wasted time!!!
Right now if someone made a good offer for them, I would sell them or trade them away!!

I'm sorry Jerry
I can't imagine how sad and heart broken you must be. Do you think it just might be a young pair or maybe just bad parents? Sorry...

I was thinking about buying a pair this weekend? Should I steer clear? Do most folks have the same issues with the Cubans?

Oh Jerry - that is so rotten! I know it is so very disappointing and heartbreaking, especially when they had seemed to be feeding the one chick. Once you get over your disappointment try to look on breeding them as a challenge - that way, when the conditions are right and they do raise some chicks you can be extra proud!! That and get yourself some Society finches and prep them to do some fostering for you. I`m working on that with my Socs for my RCCB tossers!!

Aw, I'm so sorry for your frustration! I can only imagine what that must feel like...

I do hope you hang in there! As Queen_Bee suggested, you should take that as a challenge. It's so much more rewarding once you reach your goal that way! Keeps things "fun" so to speak
Best wishes to you,

I think it depends on the birds. Many people have had great success in their cubans.... I cannot even get mine to breed yet.....

I wouldn't call it much of a problem - rather a challenge as has been mentioned above.
I have rectified the situation here by putting in a wire divider just before the eggs hatch and it works great!

I found the other pairs eggs on the bottom of the cage.
Both eggs had undeveloped babies.
Looks like they sat on them long enough and new they were no good.

Jerry, don't give up! If things were that easy, it wouldn't be as rewarding. Are you not man enough for a challenge?!
I've had some pretty bad luck with breeding something far easier than Cubans and have I given up? Absolutely not.

Don't give up on the Cubans so fast. The fact that you got that far is pretty good. Is it possible their cage is in too high a human or pet "traffic area" or their nest is otherwise too exposed? Have you tried draping their cage with plastic plants to make them feel more secure?
I bought a lot of viney plastic plants and put them on top of my bird cages and let the vines hang down into them. And I especially hide their nesting areas and my finches seem more relaxed.

If we all gave up and rehomed our birds after one failed breeding attempt - this forum would not exist

Thanks Everyone!
I haven't given up on them!
I may not keep two pairs, but I will not give up!
Really, would like to get a pair of Strawberry finches,
and maybe some Goldfinches again.
I really miss the goldies!
I haven't been on much in the last few days
because of my eyes.
My right eye especially has been giving me geief.
I have lost about 40% vision in it.
The Dr. thought it was detached retina,
but it maybe a nerve infection.
I had two eye appoinments this week alone and I am
waiting for a rush appontment with an opthamologist.
Sorry to get off the bird subject, just wanted to let you know
where I have been the last while.
My RCCB's seem to like their bigger cage.
I piut them in the wire cage I built a while back.
Fingers crossed!
Jerry
