I have a shaftail that I bought from a show...the call is so odd and strange it is like a "whew woo, whew woo". I thought at first it might be a quail call it might have picked up....it is very clear and loud. It does it randomly and I have not been able to get a recording of it yet.

Any clue...maybe a dove.

Actually my first male Godfather, made the same sound on the way home when I bought him. I actually thought that he was saying, Saluuut, Saluuut

Maybe it picked up a call from a wild bird or another bird in the breeder's aviary.

I really don`t know, but Salut is Hello is French

My male shaftail makes that noise when ever a house alarm or car alarm similar to that noise goes off on my road. Its quite nice to see him mimic it whenever it happens.

Longtails have the most delightful calls... they also have such a wide range. after 2 years with the same pair I was still learning their calls.

we have wild doves in our area that make the Whew- woo sound. Maybe he did hear a dove. Such a soothing sound. That's very cool
