That's a beautiful pair of Strawberries and mine always liked and used lots of cocofibres. Congrats on your new birds!! Who'd you get them from?

OMG, a pair of Strawberries! Mine have used the small tubular wicker nests and the large hooded wicker nests, but many of them build their own nests out of coco fiber. They are in cages with plastic plants, so those that build their own nests build them in the plants. Whatever nest you use, they like LOTS of coco fiber and LOTS of white feathers to line their nest. Oh, I'm so happy to see a pair of Strawberries, and I'm praying for breeding success!!

Here is a photo of a finch-built nest right next to the tubular nest, which had slipped into an almost vertical position. Next is a tubular nest that was used, with just-about-to-fledge babies peeking out. If I remember right, five babies eventually came out of that nest! The next photo shows a finch-built nest in a plant.

Tnx :!: for the nice comment and well wishes everyone :)

Sally,
Thanks for the info. I'll have to get some white feathers, and will also see if they will use the white string that my grey singers use instead. On the nest topic, I will use the hooded basket as they will also have the chance to build in fake plant if they choose to.

Liz n Queen Bee,
I got them a little while back from a lady in MTL. Sorry Queen B they're no more left :(
Liz you made it sound like you have gotten rid of your berries :?: i dont see them in your list anymore, whats up?

True enough Craig. I sold 3 Strawberries to Julie and the other 4 to someone else. I have not gotten one fertile egg from them in over 3 years - time for someone else with a larger aviary/cage to try their luck. There is no point in me keeping them if they won't breed for me.

I'm sure you will get lots of healthy and happy babies from your pair! =D> Do keep us all posted on your progress!

This is an interesting post so I have a question... What is the best way to provide the coconut fiber and feathers do you just put them on the cage floor or what? I don't want to have feathers floating all over..

I stick a fistful of cocofibres on the cage floor and tuck some feathers underneath the cocofibres though tthey still end up on the floor. #-o

My Strawberries liked stealing the nests that my Orange Cheeks built....They stole 2 before they found one they kept....I put one of those balls of cotton and they loved lining the nest with that....They did build one themselves out of coco fiber but it kept falling....I guess thats why they stole a ready made one...

I'm sure some will come to me when I'm ready for them. I hope you have much success breeding yours. Then you can keep me in mind for a bird or two when it is time to sell the babies!

hi cartel
i am really glad to see you have picked the right cage wire for these beautiful birds most people who buy these birds pick the wrong stuff and when chicks fledge they get jammed in the bars or sometimes fly straight through them, have you got an old pillow anywhere that has feathers in it,thats what i used because down feathers are naturally curly and fluffy.as other posters have said you can put the stuff anywhere and it will end up on the floor i stole some rings of a curtain pole and they have little alligator things on where they grip the material i used those to clip stuff onto the bars .....but it still ended up on the floor
