I purchased this male yesterday. I am not sure what type of zebra he is. It is hard to see but he has VERY light tan cheek patches.

thanks

Definately looks like a chestnut flanked white (cfw), nice bird!

As I research more I am thinking it must be a CFW just very dilute.

Could be a cream. Check this site out, scroll down to cream male...I does not have the black bar as in the CFW.

Just a hint of a brownish-tan bar. All the females with him were all white.
I checked all the usual sites and from photos he seems most like a cfw. I do have another cfw male though and he is quite different although he is split to eumo so that might be making him darker?

this is a white Florida Fancy male, I have a pair that gives FF males, creams appear to be more dilute. On the site
http://www.emeraldisleaviary.com/zebrafinches.htm there are at least 2 pictures, one is after a picture of a black face zebra.
FF male is pictured below

I would tend to side with the CFW Id. Not all that uncommon to see the males have a washed out look to their coloring. Very handsome young man.

Can't decide whether he is a diluted CFW without a breast bar or a FF with very light cheek patches??? I guess the thing to do would be breed him to determine what he is. FF is co-dominant. CFW is sex linked. If all females came out CFW that would answer the question I guess.

There are two varieties of CFW, Continental and regular. Continental has a vivid black bar on its chest, where as in the regular the black is really diluted and sometimes hardly visible. I am 99.9% sure it is a regular CFW, i have never seen a FF with the orange that light, in fact it should be as dark as possible and if it is a FF it is a poor one (sorry). But you are correct if you bred him with a normal hen (not spilt for anything) then if he is CFW 100% of the hens will be CFW and Cocks will be 100% Normal (grey). If he is a FF then 100% of young will be Normal (split FF).
This is a really good site for Zebz

hi
i think it is a cfw just very diluted,if you pair it to a normal coloured zeb(if you are thinking of breeding)you will end up with some cfws with more colour in thier cheek patches and a darker breast bar......a long time ago i used to show cfws and that is how you get the deeper colour back!

Thanks everyone! I may br bucking the show standards but I like the dilute. I actually have a fawn female that I was thinking of pairing him to. I understand that fawn is also sex-linked and that the female offspring will all be cfw and the males will all be cfw/fawn split. Unless of course they are both carrying something else! My other option is to wait a bit and breed with one of my split BCs that are normal.
Since I have the zebra experts on the line here, if I posted a photo of my fawn do you think you could tell me if she might be split for black cheek? Her tear mark is quite big and like my gray split BCs.
Thanks
Lori
PS Ken, all the 8 chicks are doing great and totally independent. Little Kenny is quite the singer and will be paired off soon.
