Due to popular demand, we have now created sub-forums for various species of finches. Feel free to post your questions (or accomplishments) in the appropriate variety of finch folder.

Let us know (here) what other type of finch should have it's own sub-forum. It should be a fairly popular finch that at least a few members have.

Just FYI, this is an idea that was developed, but it never really worked well. A poll was taken, and the consensus was that the membership would prefer that the Species Forum remain as it is today.

For information about a specific species, members can always check out the Species section of the Finch Information Center, linked at left.

Also a waxbill sub forum

May I make a suggestion that the Cordon Bleus be combined into one subforum? Often, posts are from people wanting to know if they have Red-cheeked or Blue-capped, and this way, they can compare the two more easily. Also, though few have any, there is a third Cordon Blue, the Blue-breasted, so this way, all three of them could be in one subforum.

Certainly John - since you are asking for us to create those first three. As for the Waxbill - what type? I already put up Strawberry and Cordon Bleus. Do you want anything specific Waxbil sub-forum?

Sure Sally, I'll combine them into 1 sub-forum.

I am not sure I like this new forum setup. Having to run thru the list to find your species. I kinda liked it the old way as I read most of the posts. This old dog is having a hard time learning new tricks.....

I thought a sub forum for all waxbills in general. If you did one for each species you'd have 100 sub forums.

I thought a sub forum for all waxbills in general. If you did one for each species you'd have 100 sub forums.

I realize there are too many Waxbills for every one to get an individual forum, but I thought you might have had 1 or 2 specific species in mind. As such I feel Strawberries and CB's have enough interest on this forum to warrant their own sub-forum. I'll make a general one as well for all the other Waxbills such as St Helena's, Orange-cheeked, Common, etcetera.

I too am not thrilled with a subspecies section. So much of what I learned came from reading posts about other species that I did not yet own. Now, I have those finches because I read and learned while searching about my own species at the time. Now, I'm afraid I may miss some important and helpful information, unless I try to read all posts. Hmmm.

I think in the long run, it is going to make it simpler to find information on a specific species. EX. Strawberries. Not everyone is breeding them, but at the moment to find any information we have to scroll through a lot of pages to find the information. Thus questions or information that has already been given is getting lost.

I agree, simple solution, go to the top of the page and click "view new posts" it brings up all the new posts regardless of what section they're in. When your done reading, click "board index" and then "Mark forums read" then when you go back later and click "view new posts" you get all the ones that are new since your last visit.

You can also simply click on Unread Posts and you will get all the posts you have not read yet. It's hard to please everyone and keep it simple but this should work. Let us know if you have any trouble.

I agree that we need to generalize by grouping several similar species together. We have to think about uncommon species too; and if we group by genus rather than naming only some species it would become clear were to post.
When I first looked and saw Green Singer, I thought where do Gray Singers go? They are so similar in everything. It would be nice to join these two species and many others. Exceptions have to be made. I wanted to say all Serinus species, but we have to separate Canary, so I suggest replacing Green Singer with Serinus except Canary, and add Canary sub-forum. The same approach could be applied to all other species.
Lately I couldn't keep track on all topics, but I would like to keep track of all posts from my species. I think with new sub-forums I could subscribe and it would help me not to miss any posts I could be interested, or I could provide some advice.

Just a suggestion,but how about waiting a week or two,see which sub-catergories are quiet,then decide which to group together,ie there are 3(i think) sub catergories covering parrot finch,if say only one of them is busy and the other two quiet,group the two quiet ones together

Also what catergorie would silverbill's go in?
