Red-head Finch Hen?
I recently lost my Red-head Finch hen. For the time being I put a bonded pair of Cutthroats with him to keep him company. If anyone knows of anyone with red-heads please let me know. I love these birds.
They bred one time. Hatched out 2 chicks. Abandoned the nest after 2 weeks. I found the chicks dead in the nest. The female was never healthy after that first clutch.

John since they are related to the Cutthroat, you can pair him with a female Cutthroat. The offspring males with have the red hed but darker.
I have seen them at shows...if I go I can pick you up a female. The next show is in August in Orlando...depending on the date I may go.

Cindy I know you also lost your female. Do you still have your male?
Females must be fragile.

Re: Red-head Finch Hen?
No I don't, he was rehomed to a lady with cutthroats. It upset me so much to loose her. He was lonely and they were not easy to fine at one point. I did see a few about 6 months ago at a show. There is one man at the shows that seem to have a number of them. I'll see if I can find his name on one of the vendor lists. He was also at the Hernando show.

Please do not do this. Here in Australia we have nearly lost this species altogether, and most of those left have been hybridised with cutthroats. If you would like to see future generations enjoy keeping these birds in your country, breed them true.cindy wrote:John since they are related to the Cutthroat, you can pair him with a female Cutthroat.

I agree with MadHatter. They are the same Genus, but not the same Species. It would be like pairing a Strawberry with a Goldbreast--not something you want to do.MadHatter wrote:Please do not do this. I have read this on one of the leading sites regarding the RHfinch. Of course it would be a last resort.

If I go to a show that has them I will call you John. We will get him a lady! In the mean time I will go through the vendor lists from old shows and see if I can find the vendor. I can also call the vendor I got our pairs from.

Re: Red-head Finch Hen?
Cindy is going to try and get me a female RHF. I have no intentions of breeding the male to a female cutthroat.
