Pearl-head Amadines

Post by JohnBoy » Sun Jul 24, 2011 10:55 am

My pair of amadines that I recently purchased from Jan are now building a nest. He has been active singing and courting the female. I expect eggs soon according to their behavior.
I adore these birds. They are so calm and 8)
Note: I put 2 types of nest in the cage. Abba plastic box and wicker. They choose the wicker and completely ignored the abba.

What's funny is I had two pairs that didn't sell at that show a couple weeks back that were still in quarantine.. Well I noticed a week back an egg on the bottom of their cage.. Friday they cleared quarantine I put both pair in the flight & they went straight to building nest... Must be their season.. :D .. Best of luck, we may be trading babies down the road..

That would be great. Unrelated pairs. I was thinking I need to get another pair.

I think they must have eggs in the nest. There is always one in there if not both. Keeping my fingers crossed.

One week to go before the eggs hatch. Both have been sitting tight. Fingers crossed. And now that I am doing the frogs again I have a constant large supply of fruit flies to feed if needed.

Found 2 eggs on the cage floor broken. Both had developing chicks in them. I am so disappointed. Both the parents have been out of the nest all morning and have not returned. So I guess this round is finished.
Better luck next time, I hope.

One of them has been back in the nest but I am not sure if there are more eggs in the nest. Maybe there are.
