Here is a question for all those that have succesfully bred these little beauties.

I have 2 pairs set up.....and nothing in over 2 months.
I have begun to wonder, could it be because the 2 pairs can see each other? They are across the room, but I imagine that their eyesight is probably better than mine

I have a pair set up across from single Green Singers and they don't care. They've raised two clutches before I removed the nest. Don't know if a second pair within sight should make a difference...?

I have two pairs side by side with greenery between them, but they are only five inches from each others' cages. One pair is fertile and has had three clutches this year. The other pair had laid a few eggs off and on, but nothing like a full clutch and no fertile eggs. So, they both get the same stuff, and I do not know the problem with the unsuccessful pair.

Some Green Singers are still on the "Africa (Southern Hemisphere) Clock" so they want to breed in the Autumn, which is Spring in Africa. Mine had a nest and nesting material all summer and they only finally bred in the Autumn and hatched babies around Christmas! So be patient!!

Thanks Ron I have come to the same conclusion, it is probably just way too warm here right now to get themselves stimulated.

I have had a pair of GS for over a yr...nothing at all but we are making progress, they sit on the nest and on top ot the covered basket. The male sings very long beautiful songs. I wish they were a bit more like zebras...in the reproduction department!!!

My Green Singers show interest in breeding at the end of August, beginning of September, when the days start to get shorter. I've never seen them wanted to breed in spring or the rest of the summer.

I'm glad that he is a good singer, but likely he isn't mature yet. He was born in October 2010, so he is not a year old. I find that they mature later than other species, likely because of their long life expectancy. My GS females hadn't laid their first eggs until they were over two years old, much longer than my other species. Maybe next year he will be ready.

Well, my other GS pair surprised me today with eggs. This is the pair that has not incubated nor raised any finches while the other pair had three clutches since this last year. The hen is incubating now and the dad is feeding mom in the nest. They're on the Autumn schedule, I guess.
