What age will the male rccb show the red cheek? Is there any coloring when they are a juvenile?

I can't tell when they are young. At around 2-3 months (I think) is when they start to show their red cheeks. Someone else should confirm that though.

Yep. That's about right. Actually, if you look closely even in their juvenile plumage you can see the red underneath on the male's cheeks before they molt into their adult plumage.

O.K. Thanks. I think we have a hen. She is about 2 1/2 months old and no sign of red cheeks, and she looks like a copy of her mother. She is a loud chirper though and so I wasn't sure if she was trying to learn to sing.

It's really hard to tell with RCCBs. My little handfed, Peanut, which I was sure was a hen, showed up with red cheek patches! This one still has its juvenile plumage.

Can you get a close up of the cheek area with a HD camera?
