Are Gouldian hatchlings super loud when they beg? This is my first clutch of Gouldians. I am not sure how many there are. I have resisted the urge to peek. I do not want to disturb them or mess up their vibe.

Also, I just saw my male Gouldian daddy suck down a meal worm with my BCCB's. I've never seen that out of my pair.

My gouldlans would always eat meal worms. I think they get it from the other birds.... that is why I had to stop buying them because the gouldians would eat them up from the courdons.

They can be loud. Usually you start hearing them on about the fifth day or so.

Should I peak?

I just found one small baby that was tossed, but it could be from another nest. I have CB's with babies (I can see them and they look good and older than the tossed baby), the Gouldians obviously have babies (don't know how old), and then I have some owls that are burrowed deep into a nest (not sure what they have going).
The tossed baby was very young.

I know that's probably bad that I don't know where the baby came from, but I try and give the birds a ton of privacy.

In a community breeding setup, when a chick is tossed, unless you can ID the chick (ie bare vs. fuzzy and know which species looks like that), I don't know how you would tell where it came from.

Gouldian chicks start out very quiet, but they soon get quite LOUD. I can hear them upstairs.

When eggs are due to hatch, I try to check the cage as often as I can. I have found and saved many tosslings by getting to them in time to get them back into the nest or to fosters. Difficult to do when you are out of the house at work.

I am pretty sure that the tosslings belong to a pair of owls. My CB's are further along and the Gouldians would have to be further along too with them being this loud....I would think.

I could usually hear mine peeping by day 3

I also can start to hear the gouldians at 3 days old.
Here's a site with lots of mouth markings, maybe you can figure out who's they are by comparing pictures. Gouldians are the easiest to identify with those mouth nodules.

I just peeked in the nest box and there looks to be 4 healthy baby Gouldians in there. These were definitely not the ones that were tossed.
