I am trying to get my Cordon Bleu's to relax. So far 3 new chicks have fledged and there is still 1 left to come out of the nest (pics below of the first 3). Before the last one has even fledged, they start building a freestanding nest just below their current nest (seen below). They have it wedged between the side of the flight and and a fake vine. I also threw some colored confetti in the flight and they are using that too.

Pardon the messy cage. I wait until all have fledged to clean so I do not disrupt anything.

No kidding! I do have one pair like that, though they use the same nest, so as soon as the first clutch fledged, she was in there laying the next clutch. The biggest problem with a pair this eager is that they don't want to stop--and I never thought I'd want any pairs to stop. But after this pair had three clutches, I pulled the nest and nesting materials. She proceeded to lay egg after egg in a plastic plant, the eggs fell thru the plant and wound up on the bottom of the cage. I finally had to separate them to force them to rest, and she continued to lay eggs for a few more days. I have had Owl hens do the same, so pairs that won't stop producing must be separated or the hen may exhaust herself.

are you going to let them keep the free form nest or take it down? i'd be afraid the next clutch will be compromised if the nest falls apart or the eggs roll out.

The last baby just made the plunge out of the nest. It is far more immature than the rest. I hope it does ok. The parents are still feeding her, but it's way smaller than the others and can only stay on the floor of the flight. I tried to put her in the nest, but she wasn't having any of that.

CBs tend to fledge at a very early age, often looking a bit unfinished, so I wouldn't worry too much about the little one, it should catch up. Your others really look great! Congrats!

Yep, they already laid 2 eggs in the new nest they built.
