new zebras!! BC, Fawn, CFW, etc..

Post by Oshtay » Fri Aug 19, 2011 2:02 pm

I met up with a young guy who had a great collection of zebras. We ended up making a trade. I gave him a OC waxbill pair (I still have 1 pair) for 1 BC male, 1 normal grey split to BC, 2 Fawn females, and 1 CFW.....I think. He was downsizing, so I got an incredible deal! Here are a couple pictures. Please feel free to chime in on the mutations as I'm not 100% sure. Enjoy!

oh yes, very excited! Thanks Cindy and Trish. I've been on the search for Black Cheeks for some time. I planned on getting one zebra...and came home with 5! I have to cut myself off for a while.

They are all beauties!!

is the cfw male with dark or light brown bars on his tails?

I saw you put quiestion mark on one of the finches..
do you have better pic?
Looks like a Lightback fawn :)
Does she have fawn colored wings/back
and bright white breast/stomack?
It does not matter if fawn is light or dark,
the color is allways just called Fawn.

The Female definately has color, just very light. Thanks Vargur :o
The male CFW has very light tan stripes on his tail. Now that I'm taking a closer look, there is the slightest tan color through his wings and back. Does this mean he's not CFW?

I think a true black cheek should have the black feathers on the side, but I've often seen them both ways or mixed. I hope I can eventually have the pure black.

yes, BC's have black sides.... and they can also have brown!
and they can also have black and brown mixed togehter!
what ever color that is, its "true" BC..
but I can Understand if People will rather have
pure black birds...

yes he is CFW
(he could also be CFW and CCFW.. but I dont
know how rare/common that is,
where you live...

It looks like your "CFW" pair you have posted, is actually a CFW male and a fawn female. The "light fawn" you describe seems more to me like she could be a CFW female.

It would be cool if you paired up offspring from your black cheek male, to offspring from your split black cheek male down the road...I bet you'll get a pretty good percentage of black cheeked babies!

yes, when I look at the photo again,
its looks like it might be right :)
Looks like a CFW female.
If she is white and have light brown bars on her tail,
then she is CFW.

@ Oshtay:
And when I look again on the photos,
then i think the bird in the last photo
is a fawn female and she is maybe split for BC.
Because her tear looks like to be a bit thicker than normal..
