Holy Cow!!! My Owls are Laying

Post by ranchnanny » Tue Aug 30, 2011 12:59 pm

I am so excited I have had these two owl finches since April and could not determine male or female. It wasn't until last week that I saw mating several times that I got my hopes up.. This morning I went in to say good morning and noticed one of the owls in the nest just sitting there. I wonder what is going on so after it left the nest I took a peek and I found 3 yes 3 eggs #-o . I have been dreaming of having baby owls... This can't be happening but it is.... I haven't checked to see if they are fertile as I wanted to get in and out fast so as not to scare them. Now its a wait and see game..... =D> =D>

Sherry that is fabulous! Keep us posted.

I think whether they are good parents or not varies greatly and may also depend on their experience level.

Cindy may read this and have some more insightful comments -- I just have two pairs and they have been molting/separated for the last few months but I did have a good experience with one pairs skills -- they were excellent parents even though I lost all but one of the clutch of five after weaning. :(
