My choice would be the Strawberry finches...they have a beautiful song. Plus I hear they are getting extremely difficult to find.

I would vote for the Strawberries first, then the Cordon Bleus. Of course, it comes down to what YOU like and want. They are both very pretty, active yet passive, and both have beautiful songs. Are the Strawberry males in color (when they are coming into breeding season, they turn very red, hence the name)? Otherwise, the males and females look very much alike. On the CBs, I am assuming they are Blue-capped Cordon Bleus. It is usually pretty easy to sex them, as the females are much duller in color than the males. If they are Red-cheeked, snap them up! LOL Red-cheeked CBs are really hard to find. A lot of birds have been imported recently. I would ask the pet shop if these are domestic or imported birds, only because the domestic are much more used to liviing in cages, eating our diets, etc., so they are usually hardier.
So read the species descriptions at the Finch Information Center, and see which ones will most easily work into your setup. BTW, where are you located? That is a pretty nice selection of finches for a pet shop.
I just reread your post and saw that you said they had two CBs. Make sure they are not both males--CB males usually cannot be in the same cage with another CB male.

Actually It's just a local pet store the deals mainly with fish. Hence the name "THe Fish Man Pet Center" They normally don't have finches there.

I hate to sound like every one else but I have a pair of strawberries also in my aviary and they do sign beautifully - and they get along with everyone else too! But they're strong enough to put up with the more pushy birds. Where as my Cordon Blues run and hide all the time - at times I don't see them out of their nests for days.{or course they come out to eat -But then they run back into the nest}..
So I also vote for the strawberries- and you're right - at least around here - the strawberries are very hard to find-- even at the bird shows I go to. I was luck to find this one pair..

Yeah! So you made a decision - so let me help a little if I may - I don't sell my Strawberries- I haven't gotten enough babies from them yet to make it worth my while in selling them.. but I did find a site that ships, since you didn't say where you are. So go take a look and let me just say that their prices are about what I paid for mine. I'm putting in the link it you want to go see - Now I just want to say that I don't know anything about this breeder - so Please- I'm NOT recommending them in anyway-This is just a Site I found! It's Called: "The Singing Wings Aviary"
http://www.singing-wings-aviary.com
Their Strawberries were $100.00 per pair...and they're very nice looking birds too! They also have all other kinds of Finches and a very nice price list!!!

I hadn't been there for awhile sorry! Seems Emily is right - they don't have any strawberries right now - but maybe you can put in an order for one - While you're there take a look at the "RED BILLED FIREFINCH'. I have never seen anything like them before - but they're beautiful - they seem to be PINK in color! How Weird - but how stunning!
Did you happen to see them Emily - they're on the "available" page!
