how did you manage to get hold of these birds as they are on the endangered species red list

i would just like to know why this person did not answer my post,could it infact be that it was an endangered species captive bird,as this is totally illegal all over the world and should be stamped out completly or we will be missing species sooner than we think if people are illegally catching birds that they should not be doing ,is there anyone out there who can find out where this person resides

it may be possible that the post was edited intentionaly ,if so i dont think there is any chance that we will ever find the person who posted it in the first place,i know i sound like i am policing the site but most of the subject matter we all talk about is species that are domesticated or there are plenty of them...i belong to the N C A and as part of being a member i have to watch for birds that are being illegally sold,caught,or caged and am duty bound to report it i think!

I agree with you, ken, you are duty bound to report any illegal birds you come across. If we aren't careful, there are species that can disappear forever, and that would be terrible. I even feel guilty purchasing the wild-caught waxbills that I have acquired recently. They are plentiful in their country of origin, which is one reason they are allowed to be exported right now. Hopefully, there will be enough breeding of these birds that there will be lots of domesticated ones in the future.

Me too, I can help track the person down, all I need is an IP address and then give me a few minutes and I may be able to pinpoint him/her, very simple (I work as a systems administrator)

I brought this up with Crystal. We agree that we don't want to get into the business of handing out members' emails and ip addresses, but if somebody can give me the species in question and the gist of the original post (before it was edited, obviously) she can follow up with the appropriate folks. If anybody knows WHO this should be reported to that would speed things up, as well.

I highly suggest you "munge" your email address so that crawler spam bot's won't pick it up.

Instead of @ use "AT" instead of . use "DOT" (words instead of symbols)..

That will keep automated programs from picking up your email and spamming you.

Example: NoSpam@NoSpam.Com becomes NoSpam AT NoSpam DOT com

All I remeber abouth the bird is In the name it had sometihngi to do with the color red.

Now I don't know if it was red, scarlet etc. but it was some cshad e of red.

If anybody remembers something more than the "red" (though thanks, Love!) we'll follow up. We need pretty specific info, otherwise there's not much to report!

With my senior memory, all I can recall is that it was Cardeulis something, not the European Goldfinch. Hopefully, kenny will remember it better, as he was the one who realized that this was a species that is on the endangered list. Perhaps this person didn't have a clue as to what he was doing.
