types of finches: what to get

I saw the sub-forum for species talked about here in Species, but I read a few posts and it seems no sub-forum was set up. Am I right?
I have been wondering about getting another/additional type of finch & bird books/Finch books don't describe the various species as well as I would like to know. I think you get a better indication by talking to people who have the birds. (like those of you on this forum).
I did a post search for parrot finch, but I didn't feel like wading through ALL THOSE POSTS. Recently one of our members posted pictures of his parrot finches; red & green, so beautiful I couldn't stand it. I would like to learn about them. Best way to just go to the net????
There was a beautiful orange/black weaver finch at PetSmart for $69, but I read in a book that they are mean, aggressive birds.
I don't want zebras, I would be interested to learn about some of the different species.
I'd like to learn about the green singing finch, maybe some of the more colorful Societies; but I read the Societies could have some disease that could kill the Gouldians.
So many questions; so much to learn.

If you go to the Finch information center, you can read on each species. Sometimes, the species may act a little different than the typical behavior depending on how young they are when you put them together or how you raise them. I have many different species, but the easiest for newcomers are Society's or Spice finches. I love my Green Singers, but they often do not get along with other birds or each other sometimes. Red cheek cordon blues are great, pretty sounding and friendly finches. My orange cheek waxbills are also quiet and pretty with friendly behavior. Many people, me included love owl finches and Star finches, also good species. Good Luck.

Your welcome. I think we often forget how much info has been provided there, but I was reading some info there yesterday, so I remembered to let you know too. Glad the info was helpful.
