Like most, I find the Gouldian to be really beautiful birds. I had one once, a male, that unfortunately didn't last very long. I don't know if he was sick, or if my Zebras at the time harassed him to death. He was from our local PetsMart... which I haven't had much luck with their birds in the past and in hindsight I probably should have taken him back and got my money back as I'm pretty sure he died within the guarantee period.
Anyway, I've always kind of wanted to try again with them. Could I keep a pair in a six foot planted flight with one pair each of Societies, Zebra and Java Sparrows, or would these not be compatible?
If not Gouldains, what else would you recommend for Societies, Zebra and Java?

Re: Gouldian
NOT with the zebras.
The temperment of gouldians and societies are much more passive, the zebra is an aggressive bird.
The Finch Info Center on the left of the page has a section on the various birds categorized by general temperment. Use that as a guide to which you "might" put together.
However even passive birds can change their behavior during breeding.

Re: Gouldian
I have kept zebras and gouldians together...all males in a display cage... no problems. Some zebras can be aggressive as can some gouldians. The larger the cage/flight the less likelihood of problems. Also adding females to the mix will get the males in breeding mode that can also bring out aggression.
The zebra finch and gouldian are both australian species and require the same sort of care and diet. While societies are a different and can actually pose a threat to a gouldians's health.

Re: Gouldian
Yes, I was a little worried about the Zebras and Goulds, seeing how mine reacted to the one I had before with harassing him.
Would it make a difference if it was a Gould pair and maybe a female/female pair of Zebs to cut down on aggression?

I think the female/female pair is a great idea! Just ,ake sure you have a few nests because the zebras will still nest together. Beware, I have heard of female zebra pairs stealing babies because they cannot have their own, but not too much to worry about, also, they can and will court with other males available to have babies and raise them with each other.
