Queston about Fire finch newly hatched chicks

I have a pair of Black Faced Fire finches and they have been sitting on eggs since 11/13. I haven't even seen the hen for about 3 days now as she stays right in the nest all the time. Maybe coming out when I'm not looking? Anyway, I expect the eggs should be hatching and am wondering if anyone who has bred these before knows if the newly hatched chicks beg to be feed so I would be able to hear them? There is no begging coming from that nest yet and I'm anxious to know if I have babies or not...

Are you supplying eggfood, and has the pair greatly increased their consumption of it? That is usually one of the best signs of chicks. Most waxbill chicks hatch in slightly less than two weeks, but they may be very quiet for at least the first week. Sometimes I only hear babies a few times between hatching and fledging. Good luck with these, Black-faced Fires are not common.

Yes, the male seems to be feeding all the time so I think he's feeding some little ones. I'll have to wait and see I guess.
Thanks Sally!
