This pair has such nice markings I think I will take them home and breed
Male
Female
And did I mention..they are in love and have 4 eggs in the nest.... but aren't incubating... A little too busy in the store for them.

They have such vibrant color - really beautiful.
GS pairs everywhere on this forum seem to be raising chicks, laying eggs, or just falling in love ... maybe someday mine will too.

I had about decided my GS were dysfuctional and/or incompatible, but then it was like a switch was flipped and they started building, mating, singing, laying, sitting tight. Nothing had changed that I know about, except maybe the days getting longer (they get natural light)
Who knows? They do, I guess.

Mine sat on duds at the shop.... took them home... nothing
Think I will seperate them for awhile. Sold one of the pairs and the new owner said they were building a nest so hopefully she will have some luck.
Hope you get lots of healthy chicks

I just love GS, but they seem to be getting so popular, people can get them almost everywhere now.

What I don't understand is why BCCB are supposed to be hard to find because of difficulties in importing them from Africa, yet GS are available. It looks like their natural ranges overlap.

It really depends on what the domestic breeders have been breeding here. I love the CBs but many people don't like to mess with live foods, and they are a bit harder to get to the perch... where green singers are easier to breed, they will raise their young on eggfood and I think the majority of breeders/keepers enjoy the song that they offer. I have yet to sell any cordons from the store but the singing finches and canaries sell... seems people want song and good looks.
Of course I think the CBs have a most pleasant meadow like song that I find so relaxing... but in my area the people want more song for the buck...
I think there are a lot more breeders of GS than CB here domestically so they would be easier to find in the case of halts to imports.

Hi Candace,
I've only seen photos of CB but I think they are beautiful. Personally, I like the blue capped type. I wouldn't mind that they don't sing like GS - after all not many finches do.
I have been wondering, are there commercial breeders of GS in the States, other than people breeding them as a hobby and selling the ones they can't keep as pets?
Thanks
