Over the weekend we got two new pairs: 2 Goulds and 2 star finches. They are so beautiful. If I can figure out how to download a photo, I will. My question is how long do you think it will take to really see if they like each other. For my cut throats it was love at first sight. I'm just wondering if once the stress has passed they'll snuggle up. Tnanks.

From my experience both gouldians and star finches aren't snugglers. They are the type of finches that are stand offish. They will mate together but won't snuggle at night like other types of finches.

When I added our new gouldian male to our females cage they looked at one another the first day. The second day they made a few noises and then by the third day they started to be more like friendly and then that night they slept side by side on the same perch. So it took about three days for my two gouldians to make friends. But they are not cuddly birds at all. If they sleep so close they are touching then that is a BIG thing. Usually there is about 4 inches between them.

It took my lonely female gouldian all of 2 hours to accept her new mate, but now they actually snuggle at night. I guess no one told them they weren't cuddly birds :).
Every bird has its own personality :).

My male/female gould sleep together on the same perch, rather close, but they face opposite directions. Probably a safety issue, keeping their eyes open for other birds.

Sometimes the female wants to sleep by herself, (hey it happens!), and she goes on the perch that all the other finches and my canary go on...spaced an even 3 or so inches apart.
