That was my guess as well but I was under the impression that black face zebs had a normal grey/white back and their head was just like a hood?

Try going down this thread and looking at Vargur's male. Your male looks similar with slight modifications.

Yes, do note that there is a difference between black face and black cheek. I think your gorgeous male is definitely a black face with a beautiful black breast. I hope you have beautiful babies!! =D> :)

yea I have a couple of BC cocks and could tell that he was not BC, was just unsure on rest, just looked on zebrafinch.info to see roughly what chicks I can expect, and should be black face split for white, so hopefully can get some balck face line going

Looks like a normal grey, pied, black face. Not sure if he is also black breasted or not, the cheeks usually are much bigger than that when BB, does his tail have bars? If it has no black and white bars he is BB.

Interesting, the BB tails are usually white, but it might be because of him being BF BB that converts in to simple black.

Nice find :) Hope you get some wonderful chicks from him!

I think he is BF ng pied.
And he also look like he is melanistic.
He is unusually black or dark on his head, back and wings.
should be much lighter..
You can also see the cheeks look like they
have black in them.
But still, he is very pretty.
BF is my Fav mutation :)
