My BC Crest feamle and NG/fawn male have chicks....can't see in there but I can hear them!!!! hopefully I have a batch of mop tops!!!
I think my crested male and split to pied female may have chicks or eggs, they are in the nest a lot.
The mom was born to my pair of full BCs, the pair has been housed on their own and have had a few clutches. The female was one of 6, she fledged without a large black cheek patch but was crested with a thin tear drop.Wonder what their babies will fledge as.

It is funny because out of a clutch not all may be crested.

Crested is a dominant trait and the offspring of a crest to a normal result in a 50% chance of being crested. I bet you get some
These are some of my favorite mutations... especially the pied crested

Both of my crested are unrelated....it was great to get these from my pairs. The female though was a complete surprise!
I have read all the pros and cons of breeding dounbe crested, some say no some say yes to help improve the crest of offspring. I decided it was best to pair them with non crested.
It sounds like a large clutch, very hungry to!!! There must be some Beatle hair cuts in there!

Cindy, I have witnessed what happens when you have a double crested pair. The two chicks look like spiderman, they have twisted legs and can't perch. But I'm referring to society finches.

To me it is not worth fooling with uncertainty to pair two crested,it does not guarantee a good outcome or good crests either.

These societies have ugly crests and are deformed. Dennis didn't know you can't breed two crested though. I saw them the other day.
