Looking into buying grey singers as well as plumheads. I can get a pair of wild caught grey singers for 70.00$ What do you think about buying wild caught birds?

i know that on average wild caught birds will be harder to keep and breed also they require a larger cage coming from the wild....personally i dont think i could ever buy wild caught birds because i would feel really guilty.......

We have a few members in Canada...maybe they know of or have grey singers that are available.

There is an ad on kijiji in Calgary for grey singers.

I don't have a problem with buying wild-caughts, and when I have gotten them, they are often surprisingly quick to adapt to cage living, though they will be more nervous and flighty than you might be used to. The biggest problem with buying Gray Singers is that the sexes look exactly alike. There is no way to tell them apart, except that the male is the only one that sings.

You can usually get a male to sing by putting him in another room, away from any other Gray and/or Green Singers. Within a day, he will probably start to sing. My first pair of Gray Singers (very likely wild-caught), I was sure I had two hens, as I never heard any singing at all. At one point, I separated them, still nothing. I finally decided one last time to put them in different rooms. Each went into a small cage in separate rooms. The next day, the male started singing, and the hen laid an egg on the floor of her cage! From that time on, the male sang.

I bought a male at a mart one year. I kept asking the vendor, a friend, if he was sure it was a male, and he kept assuring me it was a male. Suddenly, the little GS started singing right there in the mart. I ran right over to my friend to tell him he was right!

If you happen to get two males, and put them in two different areas where they can hear but not see each other, they will try to outdo each other in song.

Many people overlook this species, because they are so plain--they look like little gray sparrows. But I think the male's song is even more wonderful than the Green Singer. I tried to make a video of two males singing, but it really doesn't do either bird justice, they sound much better than on the video.

Thanks. I am planning on putting them in a flight cage all to themselves. If I get same sex, that's okay for now, as I heard wild caught birds take a while to settle in before breeding, and I don't want to stress them out. I am getting them for their singing. I love my pair of green singers. Thanx for the info on how to tell male/female. If I get same sex pair, it just means I need to get 2 more birds Plus they're only 35.00 each, so it's afforable for me.

I bought a pair from Magnolia Bird Farm. Albert was very nice to pick them up nd ship to me. The male sings since day one. I love their songs. Q
