A Tuesday morning {:> surprise a zebra with a crest on top!!

Post by cindy » Wed Jan 25, 2012 10:35 am

Ok...I know I peeked before and knew that there was a crested in the nest but it was still tiny.

Yesterday I worked all day in redoing the bird room to make it easier to clean and see everyone. I didn't even think to look back into the nest but today I walked by the room and saw three little ones sitting out near the parents. A little gray with white dots on her head, a solid gray and a gray with a crazy do that looks like it needs a bit of Dippity Do!

The mom is a BC crested but she was borm with a tear and no cheek patches Though all her other siblings from this clutch and previous clutches all have cheeks, no crests) and the day is an offspring from the pair John gave me that give silver, fawns, Isabel and normals.

The marks on the face near the beak interest me.

soooo cute! These crested ones I originally thought were odd looking but now I'm getting enamored!
ten blue capped cordon blues, one male red-cheeked cordon blue, four blue breasted cordon blues, 5 gouldians; two parakeets, 9 owls, five blue-faced parrot finches, two green singers, four stars, 2 shaft tails, four gold breasts, two orange cheeks, two lavenders and sixteen societies.

That is such a cute zebra fledgling. What about the coloring by the beak is interesting? I am still learning about these zebra mutations.

Thank you Debbie and Deborah! The thick dark line on the feathers between the white and the beak....sometimes those mark may indicate a mutation clue. The tear is thick and jagged also.

So, what clue does that marking tell you about the mutation? Is there a split to something else?
