I tried to make a thread about this earlier, but the site crashed and my message disappeared Oh well!

I have noticed that my society hen looks very fat/fluffy compared to my society males she looks like a little ... ball, while the males are slim. My hen also has a wider head and beak than the males, their head is slimmer and their beak is longer.

All you society finch owners - do you see any physical differences between the males and the females ? I have been told that there is no way of sexing them besides going on the song/chirp, but maybe their appearance says SOMETHING anyway!

My society hen looks very much like this society! She has the same kind of "collar" of fluff under hear beak that none of my males have!



You are very welcome to post pictures of your society males/females if you have any where the difference is visible

I can state that both of my hens are larger than my male but I've never known their exact age so I'm unsure if age plays in a role in my case.

I have read that some people can sex their societies by the shape of the head width and beak.

Yeahh, i agree that the age might have something do to with it, but i do think that there are differences My society hen is 3 years old, while the youngest male is like 7 months old, so he is small compared to her - but she is also bigger than the older males!

I think its the contrary to what te quote says i think HENS have bigger heads than males, at least mine does her head is wider and her beak is shorter and bigger compared to the males
