I have right now 4 zebra in a larger age that housed 5 love birds once upon a time, anyway my husband is building me an cage abut 8feet by 4feet by 3 feet for an empty space in our home. I guess my question is what finch breeds are safe to house with my zebras? :?:

I have fallen in love with the parrot breeds. Please tell me that they would be ok? :(

I have a mixed aviary and I used the link becca sent. It's very useful. But it's not 100%. There are some finches listed on the aggressive section which I have not found to be aggressive and some on the passive side I've found more aggressive. I've found that as long as there are areas to go to get away from each other, plants to hide in and different feeding stations, it's working for me. I don't have any parott finches (yet). If you plan to breed them that's when you'll truly see if they are compatible. It brings out their competitive nature.

We keep our Red Faced and Sea Green Parrot finches paired in seperate cages due to observed agressive behavior. I do not personally know anyone that breeds them that keeps them with any other birds.

We also no longer keep Shaftails in our walk-in flights because we have seen them get agressive and they also took over other species nest.

Are you planning on putting nests in this aviary?

Zebras do get territorial around their nest area when they are breeding. However, I have a zebra finch in my aviary with many different species. It isn't a breeding aviary (except for my societies in there that insist on breeding no matter what I think!).

Is this aviary going to be 8 ft wide, because that is pretty large, and I'm sure they will all have there own spaces... and like someone else said, make sure you have multiple feeding/drinking spaces.

the other thing I thought of was when it comes time to put them in the aviary, put all the birds in at once so it's all new for everyone. Nests will only cause upsets. I'm not sure were you're located but I have the e-mail address of a breeder in Oregon. I recently got some birds from him.
