i would really like to see some. i see a lot of pictures of bb and ob cocks but i want pictures of hens please, and their markings

for a black breast split there are small signs like an orange line that extends out of the cheek patch over the eye. The best indicator is an hourglass shape in the tail feathers.
on this page the one in the center is a split to tail feather

the feather on the right is a full BB

can a bird be split 1/4th? i think Lolita might be split to bb. the chicks have thin tear marks and i posted a while back about how Lolita did not look alike my normal grey Ivy who passed away. She has a sort of brown color to her wings and white lacing on the flight feathers. her tail bars look normal, she has a buff belly(a bit harder to capture on camera but it is buffer then it looks) i think she is split to bb 1/4 if the split goes that far... Ivy was so pretty! i will post a pic of her and Ivy
Here is Lolita

its even a small bit buffer then this pic, but this one shows it well.

This is Lolita and Lux, they had a normal clutch i think, but the babies did not live long enough for full coloring. the beaks were not even changing when they died

but they were starting to change it was not apparent yet.

i have pictures SOMEWHERE but i cannot find them!

Zebras can be split to several mutations at the same time. Do you know the background of your parent birds?
another site for mutations and descriptions is
http://www.zebrafinch.com/NewZebra/Zebra.html
Roy Beckham and Garrie Landry are well known for Zebra mutations.

you are never going to believe this!!!
i looked at the tail feathers.*sigh* "its a normal. no need to get my hopes up"

But then... he flapped his wing and it did not go back to place on his side because my finger was in the way. all of a sudden, a wild odd feather appears!those two white feathers at the top right(that are on his tail) have blotches of black on the side so they look all white, if you look close enough, you can see the black on them. the furthest "all white" feather is half black, the other side is kinda hidden

Oh and as you can see, they also got that white rimmed feathers from their mom

so is this normal? i have not checked the other chicks yet. have i gotten to excited for no reason?

they at least do not look like bars,
they look more like dots!
I had one bird with dots on his tail

it could be your birds have hidden genes in them,
you just have to be patient, maybe one day
a different colored chick will pop up in you nest ;)

woo hoo! i knew something was different about Lolita! i am positive it is her, Lux and Ivy had a completely normal clutch!!
just checked the other two chicks, all three have those odd ones!
also i could be going crazy but i TOTALLY saw very very light orange lacing(tiny one) on the end of a feather on Tahny, and his odd tail bar feathers are half white have grey(but there are only two) and they are high up on the tail like gus(pictured above)
does the white look orangish in those pics?
