Ameza and Vargur ~ work your magic!! ;)

I am going through my offspring (fawns from Flit) and trying to figure out what is stay and what will be sold off. The ones staying are being kept because, not only do I loke the look but they seem to be either split or have interesting marking which can be paired nicely with other mutations.

BIRD 1 is a rather large male, he has white wing edged and a soft white half outline around one area of the face. (I read somewhere that pied markings are usually rough and jagged where as it the edges are smoooth and rounded it indicates a marker for a certain mutation...think it was split to BB. He also carries a distinctive hourglass shape in the tail but it is not compact, it is elongated. His flank spot are somewhat oval.

He was not happy about being handled but I tried to get clear shots for you.

BIRD 2

He is bird 1's brother. He has white that comes up over and around the eyes. His tail has one very thick long white feather pattern much like the pictures of splits on efinch for splits
http://www.efinch.com/species/bbzeb.htm

He had a second one on the other side but I believe it was knocked out or his brothers were picking on him...it can be seen in the baby picuters of the 4 in a row. Baby on the right is Bird ! with the white wing edges.

Hm, I would not be surprised if both of them are split to BB!

Bird 1 may not have the hourglass shap but his tail is even closer to looking like the tail of a full BB than a split, so Iðm goint to go with the guess that he sure is split BB. At least I don't know of any other mutation that affects the tail feathers like this. If it was the pied gene at work, the whole tail feather would be white.

Bird 2 does have an unusual tail that could very well be the split to BB, also he has such a very thin tear mark! Also extra white colour under the beak is supposed to indicate BB split. (I guess that might apply to both of them).

So to sum up, I think they are both split BB.

I have also been wondering since you mentioned that some of the offspring seemed to have dark vs. black breast bars if that is an indicator in lighter mutations. Because I have one isabel boy that has very dark grey chest (and for other reasons I'm sure he is split BB) while another isabel boy that does not seem split to BB does have much much lighter colour in the chest.

I wonder if it is just a chance with my boys, or if it might be a mutation fact with lighter mutations.

Anyone have any facts on this?

Thank you Ameza....their sister has like markings is in with the crested NG/pengiun/BB/pied.

The two birds you ID'd are going to stay here, the rest are being rehomed this weekend.

It is odd how the ones showing split to BB are showing the white under the chin....and have the dark black chest bars instead of the Brown as a fawn should. Others not showing the signs in the tail are brown. It is as iif the fawn color that normally changes the breast bars to dark brown was reversed by the BB factor.

Yes it seems to be a trait that one can look for. I thought it might just be my birds. I'm going to ask Elma if she has noticed this, or if she looks here she will probably share her opinion.

I have one old picture of my males, the one to the left is just molting there but you can see faint bar lines, and they never got any darker than that. Just a bit darker than himself. (he is on the otherhand split BC, I hope I can one day get isabel BC like Elma :) ) While Funi in the middle has much darker chest and he is the one which is split BB. (and confirmed with breeding, haha lol)

Lol! That is too funny. He looks like he is not only giving you quite the glare but a nice big frown on top of that.

Funi also has the white that goes up along the sides of the beak to top ot the head. One of mine has that (Bird 1) and the other has white around the eyes (bird 2), the white is in a thin line to the back of the eye and goes over the eye.

Did the one male on the left get full dark orange cheeks?

Penguin female? Cute!!!

Interesting indeed!!

Yes he did get fully orange cheeks, he is very much like Funi, but he is Grey Isabel so his body is more grey and a bit darker. I'll send you a newer picture of him when I get the chance.

And Cindy, you always fall for this female of mine haha :D :D :D
She if fawn BB BF, not penguin xD

Though I agree it looks almost the same. We only have one male penguin that I know of and Elma has him and noooo other penguins.

I am saving one of the fawn/BB for offspring from the male John gave me...the male is split to BB.

Actually, I have a male from that pair, I could match it with a female sibling to Bird 1 and bird 2.
