Orange Cheek WB Leg Color

Post by ranchnanny » Sun Feb 05, 2012 4:30 pm

I have two OCWB's and I think male & female as one sings. I have had them since last April and no nest building or eggs. My question is I noticed the other day a difference in leg color one has dark legs and the other light colored legs. Is there some kind of meaning there?

I think WC have black legs, and as you breed them in captivity they get lighter and lighter

Often younger birds will have pinker, shiny legs, an older bird can have a little duller darker leg coloring. Do you know the age of your birds?

I don't know the age of these OCWB's. I purchased them from Petsmart last April and they were in good condition. They are very active little birds.
Thanks

Busy little things for sure!!! Perhaps one is younger than the other. Sexing is a bit tricky, did you peek at the coloring around the vent area?

I am pretty sure one is a male cause I have heard and seen him sing. I had posted a while back that the one that sings has a darker orange/red beak, however, no eggs no mating just lots of preening and playing with nesting materials. Oh well I love them just the same not really interested in breeding them...

Take their nest out for a few months, give them more light in this time, give them alot of white prosso millet, cover there cage with alot of plants, add the smallest wicker backet you can find and put some material inside, stick the nest infront of a perch, but covered by plants so only the entrance is visible. I noticed mine like picking their material off the floor. I have done this and it worked for me, it may work for you. :)
