I am pretty sure it indicates male. I am not experienced in goulds though,so i could be wrong

I've heard many people say that indicates male, however I have breeding females that have the same tail configuration.

Both males and females will have these long tails... the males are much longer than the females and are aften called tail wires.
Here's a male with really long "wires"
In this picture the hen on the left has the 2 longer feathers but the male, on the right has the long tail wires.. you can see them trailing behind.
Male in front, female tail points behind. Seems the feathers are longest at peak breeding condition
Hen in front... male in back

As far as the fanning of the tail.. it just depends on how they carry it
Here it is held tight
and here slightly fanned
Don't even ask me what's going on with his tail feathers
These are all boys... yours is a hen.

Thanks Angie... which one?
Probably the one in the first picture... I sold him shortly after that picture was taken. He was only 9 months old there and was one of the longest fellows in body lenght I have eber seen... he has since filled out for his owner and is humongous!!!! and even prettier... been kicking myself in the butt for selling him every since

Just kidding. Love making people happy with gouldians

I find many people here so helpful when we are trying to learn about finches and mutations or variations etc. Nice photos of all the gouldians.

Yeah, I saw, but then was browsing and saw your original post. I love looking at the pictures. Thanks. I cannot take credit for her because I thought I had a regular pair and they both ended up being split to blue.
