Star Finches??

So, a while back I went to a petstore who had YF and RF star finch hens. I doubt they still have the YF, but I would like to get one. They were only $40.00, is it worth it? Who keeps them? What are they like? I understand they are similiar to gouldians. (I read the efinch article already)

Dante PetSmart carries them but they are asking much more for them. $40 is good, I've seen them at shows for $45 each!

So I am getting a good deal?? I called petsmart, only have spice, zebras and societies right now. And they actually are only 39.99.

They have stars at the one near me...with the penguin to!!!

Thats a pretty good price. Over here RH start at 65 and go up to 90. depends on the breeder. YHs start at 80 and up to 100!...Thats why I havent been able to get them cause they are a little expensive for me

Go get them!! I do not know how you could walk into a petstore and leave without a bird.. I can't how much are they asking for the stars?? And when are you going to get that penguin?? He will end up going to a 9 year old who won't want him in a month if you don't get him!

only if Canada allowed birds to come in, I would ship you some! I heard they do good with gouldians, so if you ever get some they can live with your goulds!

I have YF Stars and I love them! I just had two fledge today and they're gorgeous. The YF Stars go for about 85-95 here, as they're not as common as the RF Stars. So, Dante and Cindy, those are unusually cheap prices for PetSmart. Go get 'em.

So cute!!! And the ones I am getting are from a family owned shop, not petsmart. It is about 20 minutes away, near my dad's house, so he will probaly bring me when he gets back

Dee, you should come to Ontario. We have Stars a little more affordable here but that's a great price in NY. Stars are wonderful birds to have but need much more privacy for breeding than Gouldians .

Well, i am stuck, I want stars, but also want javas from John, and a pair of linnies! What should I focus on?!

Go with what fits your current finch population as far as cages, sizes, compatibility, etc. I often want some species that I have to admit will not readily fit into my existing group of finches.
