Hello, as ive posted earlier. I purchased a new Fawn Java.
Ive noticed though that my new Java Finch doesnt even go above half the height of the cage as my existing Java Finch will not let it. It sits on the bottom or on a low feeding dish. Ive had to put a water dish at the bottom as its not even allowed to go to the top for a drink, poor thing.
Its so beautiful, and i was almost hoping it would be a female and get on with my existing Java.
Is this a ranking thing. Would a male Java only do this to another Male?
Or is it a case of they just generally dont get along with each other.

Gees, I’m so new at Birding, that I’m not all that sure anything I’ve got to say, counts for much at this point, but…..
I suppose that the Java species may be a rather aggressive bird, and in that case I’m not sure just what one might do about that, however…
I’ve been told that having a Nest, or material for them to use in one, can make a Male very territorial.
But if that’s not the case, I’ve placed a Partition between animals, one they can see through, but not harm each other. A spare side of an unused Cage, may fit in, and separate the Birds, allowing them to get to know each other a little better, “eye to eye” so to speak.
This of course is a temporary measure, and contingent on if your Cage is large enough to actually partition it off.

I've never had Javas, but at the FIC, it says they are a passive species, just the size can be intimidating to smaller finches. It doesn't say anything about males being aggressive to other males, either. It may be a case of your first Java is being territorial about his cage. When adding a new finch, it often works to take the old finch out of the cage, rearrange perches, etc., in the cage, then place both birds back in the cage at the same time.
