Surprisingly my local Petco carries these gorgeous birds, but they are $65 each :\
I am thinking of getting a male and breeding to a female canary as many sites say the offspring would have a gorgeous song. Good idea or ?

I have no idea. I have been told to get a canary mate for my large-type Green Singer, that it would produce a mule but with a beautiful song, but I'm still hoping to find a mate for him.

Of course you can breed them, if you can try to find a dark coloured canary, they are more easily accepted by a gold-finch, give your boy some time to get to know you, they still have wild insticts and are slow to breed because they are easily stressed near humans. The babies have an amazing song as long as you expose them to both types of singing, goldfinch and canary.

Only $65 each???? I would so get them, around here they are between $170 and $250 each, depending if you get them from a petstore or breeder.
Although I have met a breeder that wanted a whopping $300 for a single, unsexed Euro Gold.

Goldfinch x canary is a nice hardy bird best to get the young finchnoted instead of the canary song the easiest way is to remove the young from canary earshot and place next to a cock goldfinch or continously play a CD with the goldfinch song.
