We have a new Lady Gouldian supposedly female but it was just clearly hopping up and down like a pogo stick and singing.

I believe the females may do a dance in reaction to a male courting her, but only the males sing, so if your Gouldian is singing, it is a male.

Odd, I have a yellow hen that jumped and she was young, and as Sally said, they will copy the male. Singing is the dead give away. If yours is young she may be doing the same as mine. She did it right next to her choice of mate when he did it. I thought they were both males until she disappreard and was found sitting on eggs.

As they mature the females' dance consists of tail and head shaking - no singing.

I had wondered the same. I have always thought the males did all the dancing. I have only seen a few videos on youtube before. They were cool to watch.
